PRE-READING SKILLS

PRE-READING SKILLS
1. Print motivation

Printed motivation is the child's interest in the book and reading. It's important for kids to read books on topics they like so they can get their attention so they can participate in reading.
For example, if the child likes animals, he would read a book about them

2.Print Awerness

Understanding that print on a page represents words that are spoken, knowing how to follow words on a page, and knowing how to hold a book.

For example: this activity consists of the boy recognizing the letters written in the book, turning the pages, that is, that they manipulate and discover.

3.Phonological Awareness

The language phonological function is a metaentic capacity, which allows the child to analyze the sound structure of the sound. Phonological awareness allows to attend, discriminate, remember and manipulate sound.
For example in this activity we have to find the pairs that rhyme:

4. Narrative skill

Narrative skills consist of a series of skills, which allow children, adolescents and adults to tell stories with a structure based on the introduction, where the characters are presented, the knot where other events begin and finally, the outcome or final, where the conflict is resolved.  It is a process that involves cognitive, social and expressive functions of language. For example, we could tell a story. The story is "Erme" that talks about inclusion and children must identify the beginning, knot and outcome of the story.

5. LETTER KNOWLEDGE

This is to understand that the letters are different from each other.
In this activity they must recognize the letters with their identifying sound, so the boy or girl must take the letter they touch from the container and identify it in order to order the alphabet.

6. VOCABULARY

Vocabulary: knowing the names of things, people, their feelings, concepts and ideas. Know the meaning of words and connect words with objects, events or concepts in the world.
In this activity, the boy or girl will have to match with arrows to match the animals, in this case, with their names. In this way, they will learn much more vocabulary and in a different way.

PRINCIPLES TO TEACH ENGLISH TO VERY YOUNG CHILDREN

1. Give ten essential principles of good learning materials for children and cite relevant authors who have affirmed them.

Then essential principles of good learning materials for children and cite relevant materials for children are:
    1. Young learners have a great curiosity to try new things and to explore concrete to abstract things.
    2. Young learners actively construct meaning from their experiences. They learn through hands-on experiences and through manipulation of objects in the environment
    3. Young learners focus on the immediate here and now context situation.
    4. Young learners have a quite short attention span and are easy to get bored.
    5. Young learners learn through their own individual actions and exploration.
    6. Young learners are keen to talk about themselves, and respond well to learning that uses  themselves and their own lives as main topics in the classroom.
    7. Young learners often learn indirectly rather than directly.
    8. Young learners learn best when learning is kept whole, meaningful, interesting and functional.
    9. Young learners learn by thinking in term of theme.
    10. Young learners learn best as a community of learners in non-competitive environment.
